Introducing Kal (short for Kaladin), a handsome 8 year old boy that came to GABR suffering from horrible and painful ear infections; but that is all behind him now (except for continued ear cleanings) and he is hoping to find his very own family to love.

Kal loves his foster family and follows them all around the house; he also really loves to play, hide his treasures and go for walks.  He is a sweet boy, but he does have some separation anxiety and he would do best in a home without small children, since sudden movements and being awaken by a touch can cause a reaction.

Although Kal has been the only dog in his foster home, he gets along with the dogs he meets on his walks and has been okish with the family cat.

It will take some time for Kal to adjust and trust his new family, but with lots of patience and understanding, Kal will relax and become the dog you always wanted.

Red is a beautiful 3 y/o basset mix who has a very gentle soul.  She is extremely skittish, afraid of sudden movements or noises.  She came to GABR from a breeder who did not take the time to show her love or socialize her with people.  She is good around other dogs once she meets them and has no aggressions.  When she is frightened, she will run and hide. 

Red has not learned to trust humans, but is making slow progress.  She is starting to approach other people on her own as she becomes more familiar with routines.  She likes to sit back and observe what is happening.  She is house trained and crate trained, but prefers to not be in a crate.

Red will need a forever home that has another gentle dog and is on the quieter side.  Her new family will need to be patient and give her time to trust and learn what a wonderful life she can have.  She likes to go on walks and be petted, especially belly rubs.  If you are experienced with shy dogs or have enormous amounts of patience to let Red find her way, please consider sharing your home and love with Red.

Meet Annabelle – Your New Best Friend!

Annabelle is an adorable 8-year-old girl with a heart full of love and a spirit that shines. She was recently surrendered — not through any fault of her own, but due to her previous owner receiving devastating cancer news. With a heavy heart, her owner made the courageous decision to ensure Annabelle would continue to be loved and cared for.

A Well-Mannered Lady - Annabelle is house-trained and crate-trained, though she doesn’t need to be crated — she’s trustworthy and calm. She’s accustomed to a home filled with love and routine, and she carries herself like a seasoned companion.

Social & Sweet - This girl is a true cuddle bug who adores human companionship. She also gets along well with other dogs and has even enjoyed time at doggie daycare, making her an ideal addition to homes with other pups. Whether it's playtime or nap time, Annabelle fits in seamlessly.

Health & Care - Annabelle currently manages skin and eye allergies with daily medications and a weekly medicated bath. We’re actively researching holistic and alternative options to make her routine even easier. While she has some benign cysts (earning her the loving nickname “Lumpalicious”), they only add to her charm and character.

Playful Personality - She hasadorable back feet, loves to play with toys, and joyfully bounces when she’s excited — whether it’s after a romp outside or when her foster family comes home. Her zest for life is contagious!

Nacho is Cookie's four year old brother. He also does great with the resident bassets and with children. There were a couple of "dog arguments" between Nacho, Cookie and the resident bassets, initially, when they came to their foster home. They seem to form a team when together. Now that everyone has gotten used to each other, everyone is getting along and they all like to play together. 

Nacho is not much of a barker but he will join in on "howling parties" with the two resident male bassets. Nacho is about 80% house trained. He may have some problems with trying to "mark his territory" in a new home, as he was neutered at a later age.  Nacho does like to take any shoes, socks, clothing, or any item left in his reach, however has not chewed up anything that he has stolen.  Nacho also walks like a gentleman on leash and he is a smaller basset, like his sister Cookie.

To our knowledge, neither Cookie or Nacho have been with cats.

A charming mix of basset and beagle (bagel) Aella is a great companion who LOVES her walks.  In fact she “walked” her foster for 7 miles this past weekend (something very few full blooded bassets would deign to do).

Surrendered because of a divorce situation, Aella is best as an only dog, as she is territorial of “her” things including her space, toys, food, and people.  She mostly ignores the resident cat.  She is shy when first meeting strangers, but quickly warms up when they get down on her level and offers treats.  She is not used to being crated, but instead stays in a smaller contained area of the house while her foster is gone, and does not get into anything. 

While she loves to go outside in the yard, she will chase birds and probably squirrels, and is very speedy.  She is very happy girl,  and with an experienced owner who loves to take daily walks, she will absolutely thrive.

When sweet 7 year old Bonnie came to us, she had been suffering from an incredibly inflamed skin condition and large skin growths for two years.  She also had infections in both ears, and needed dental work.

  Weighing 84 pounds when she entered GABR’s care, she had 8 growths hanging from her, that totaled 6 pounds, when removed.  She was treated with allergy medications, started on a limited diet,  given special baths and treatments for her skin ear medications.  

When she had healed enough from that surgery, she needed a dental surgery, and another growth removed from her leg.  Though her skin is slowly improving, the medications will be ongoing, and she will need special diet, possibly for the remainder of  her life.I

n spite of all of this, sweet Bonnie embodies the words loving and playful.  She absolutely adores attention, plays with the other dogs well, is loving her long and   daily walks, and is a terrific companion.  She wants to be included in everything and be with her caretaker all the time, and in fact when left, will howl the way only a basset knows how to; loud and long!

She loves to tear around with the other dogs, and has a doggy door in her foster home, so is able to go in and out as she pleases.  She has discovered the joy of unattended socks, and will shred them in minutes, so having chew toys available is a must.  She is crate trained, and given her love of chewing, is the best option when she has to be left alone.

Bonnie needs an owner who is home most of the time, is active and likes to walk daily, and will be attentive to her health care needs, now that she is doing well.  If this sounds like you, please fill out an adoption application.  She may have special needs for her allergies, but she will be your special and loving companion for life.
